If you have kids or have spent more than half an hour watching a channel that shows cartoons on a regular basis, you've probably heard of Monster High. The epitome of a "Toys for Toys Sake" franchise, Universal Pictures is moving the Mattel dolls, oddly proportioned teenage monster characters, into the live-action big screen space, Deadline reports.

Director Ari Sandel, who directed 2015's The Duff, will take on the franchise. This comes in conjunction with Universal's monster-movie push, where they hope to make an "Avengers meets classic monsters" shared universe, though Monster High isn't likely to be directly connected to it.

The script, telling the story of these children of the famous monsters at high school (whoda thunk it?) is from Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz, who have previously worked together on The OC and Gossip Girl. No timeline for the film has been established yet.
