The Martian Is President Obama's Favorite 2015 Movie & The First Lady Chose Pixar's Inside Out

Barack and Michelle Obama have good taste. People magazine sat down with the President and First Lady to discuss which films, books, television shows and songs from 2015 were their favorites.

The film that President Obama most enjoyed this year was Ridley Scott's The Martian, which starred Matt Damon as a NASA astronaut stranded on Mars with limited resources. Last year, Barack chose Richard Linklater's 12-year-project Boyhood as his favorite. The First Lady was most fond of the Disney-Pixar animated film Inside Out, which has grossed $850M at the worldwide box office.

Favorite song? The President digs "How Much a Dollar Cost" by Kendrick Lamar and Michelle is smitten with Bruno Mar's "Uptown Funk." Favorite book? Barack found the marriage-oriented "Fates and Furies" by Lauren Groff hard to put down, while Michelle was hooked on Elizabeth Alexander's "The Light of the World," a memoir about the unexpected death of her husband. Favorite TV show? Barack loves Cinemax's The Knick, starring Clive Owen as a talented but drug-addicted surgeon in New York during the early part of the twentieth century. Michelle prefers ABC's comedy, Black-ish.
