Star Wars: The Force Awakens Passes $760 Million Worldwide, $1 Billion by Christmas?

We talked earlier today about Star Wars: The Force Awakens' continually record-breaking domestic box office haul, and the expectations for the Christmas weekend. Well, some projections for the worldwide box office are even more stunning, but still possible. While the movie should pass half a billion dollars in the domestic box office at some point this weekend, it could hit another milestone even earlier.

After Wednesday's solid haul, pulling in almost an exactly even $38 million and change each domestica and foreign, The Force Awakens passed $750 million worldwide, hitting $765.9 million overall. If as strong a Christmas day as expected hits tomorrow, that means Star Wars could very well pass $1 billion in worldwide gross tomorrow, after just over a week in any market. That would mean, of course, more records, including the fastest to hit that global tally.

It would also make it one of only 24 total films to hit $1 billion (not adjusted for inflation), and with the remainder of the weekend, should put Star Wars: The Force Awakens into the top 20, maybe even the top 15 all-time for worldwide gross. Four of those 23 current films (and of the top ten overall) over $1 billion are 2015 releases, and this will undoubtedly be the fifth, it's just a matter of when.
