Dragon Ball Super Renames The Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Form

Vegeta - Dragon Ball Super - Super Saiyan Blue

The latest episode of Dragon Ball Super has renamed the highest level of Super Saiyan power growth to something a little simpler.

The form called Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan was introduced in the latest set of Dragon Ball Z movies. The term is a mouthful of redundancy, and the creators and characters of Dragon Ball Super seem to agree. They've already renamed the form in the pages of the Dragon Ball Super manga, and now the TV series has followed suit.

In the manga, Goku and Vegeta comment directly on how long and ridiculous the title is. Whis suggests renaming the form to "Super Saiyan Blue," in reference to the color a Saiyan's hair changes to when he achieves that level. Goku and Vegeta agree.

The name change is a lot simpler in the anime. While training Cabba, Vegeta transforms into his highest level of power in order to show the young Saiyan what he can achieve with enough training. Vegeta refers to the form as "Super Saiyan Blue" and…that's it. There's no explanation, and no borderline meta-textual commentary from any of the other characters. Vegeta speaks as if Super Saiyan Blue is what they've always called it, and the episode moves on from there.

With that, it now seems that Super Saiyan Blue is the official terminology for the power level formerly known as Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan.
