Deadpool beat long odds to become the highest grossing film of 2016 at the North American box office with $362.7 million, but the 20th Century Fox R-rated superhero film was merely keeping the seat warm until Marvel's Captain America: Civil War came along.

With projections of $19.5 million during the 4-day Memorial Day weekend, pushing its domestic total to $372.6 million, Captain America: Civil War will surpass Deadpool at the U.S. box office.

As for all-time at the domestic box office, Captain America: Civil War now ranks #28, passing 2004's The Passion of the Christ. It'll need another million to pass 2004's Spider-Man 2 for #27.

In its fifth frame overseas, Captain America: Civil War grossed $12.5 million, pushing its international total to $730.7 million and its global total to $1.108 billion. It is currently ranked as the fourth highest grossing superhero movie of all time internationally, trailing Avengers: Age Of Ultron ($946 million), The Avengers ($895 million) and Iron Man 3 ($806 million).

Marvel's Captain America: Civil War finds Steve Rogers leading the newly-formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity, but after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark's surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

The film stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Emily VanCamp, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd and Frank Grillo, William Hurt and Daniel Brühl. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and produced by Kevin Feige. Louis D'Esposito, Alan Fine, Victoria Alonso, Patricia Whitcher, Nate Moore and Stan Lee served as executive producers. The screenplay was written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
