Paramount Releases Statement On The Passing Of Star Trek's Anton Yelchin

Earlier this morning, it was announced that Alton Yelchin tragically died today in a freak accident. It was later confirmed by the Los Angeles Police Department, who revealed that the 27-year-old actor was killed when his own car rolled "backwards down his steep driveway, pinning him against a brick mailbox pillar and security fence."

"The victim was on his way to meet his friends for rehearsal," the LAPD added. "And when he didn't show up, his friends went to his house, where they found him deceased by his car. It appeared he had momentarily exited his car leaving it in the driveway."

Since the news broke of Yelchin's death, there has been an outpouring of mourning, love, and adoration from fans, friends, colleagues, and family. Now, Paramount Pictures, the studio behind the Star Trek films Yelchin starred in, has put out an official statement.

"All of us at Paramount join the world in mourning the untimely passing of Antony Yelchin. As a member of the Star Trek family, he was beloved by so many and he will missed by all. We share our deepest condolences with his mother, father and family."

Even J.J. Abrams, who directed Yelchin in Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness and produced the upcoming Star Trek Beyond, has posted a touching letter to the late actor.

Aside from playing Pavel Chekov in Abrams's Star Trek films, Yelchin will be remembered for his roles in Alpha Dog (2006), Charlie Bartlett (2007), Terminator Salvation (2009), Fright Night (2011), and Green Room (2015).
