Bioware's upcoming Mass Effect Andromeda is seeking to take the franchise in new directions, starting with a new lead character and a new part of the galaxy for players to experience.

Still, it would be nice to know what happens in the interim between Mass Effect 3's ending and Andromeda's introduction, and Titan Books is looking to do just that with their new four-part novel spinoff series (via Eurogamer).

As Titan Books puts it, "The novels will act as prequel and sequels to the events in the games and will become part of the overarching Mass Effect saga. They will focus on key characters and answer the many questions fans have been asking." Some of the bigger questions it hopefully answers are what happened to Liara and the rest of the gang once they landed on that strange planet at the end of the game, and what the "true" ending is considered to be, as the player had three different options once the game concluded.

Bioware has said that the ending to Mass Effect 3 doesn't affect Andromeda, as the game is set later in the future and in another place, but now that we are delving into that in-between timeframe, I would like to see some of that referenced.

Titan will release the first novel, Mass Effect: Andromeda - Initiative in August of this year, with the second novel hitting in March of 2017, third in September 2017, and the fourth in March of 2018. Initiative will be written by N.K. Jemisin (The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms) and the fourth will by Mac Walters, who is the game's Creative Director. Authors have not been released for novels two and three as of yet.
