After taking a year off, the Zombie Walk is coming back to San Diego Comic Con!

"That's right... we're baaaa-aaaaack!" exclaimed the Zombie Walk's official Facebook page. "Just in time for our tenth* annual walk during Comic-Con week!" They added, "Best. Walk. Ever. Do NOT miss this year... it may be your last chance to shamble with America's Finest Zombies!"

Established in 2006, the annual event features people dressed as the living dead moaning and groaning as they move in a slow, halted manner through the streets of San Diego toward the Convention Center and into the city's Gaslamp Quarter.

After a terrifying hit-and-run incident at the 2014 Walk, organizers decided it was best to cancel the event the following year. For those of you that don't remember, on July 26, 2014, a deaf motorist and SDCC volunteer, Matthew Pocci, stopped at the intersection of 2nd and Island avenues. There, a large crowd of people, possibly including some from the Zombie Walk, slowly crossed the intersection. Pocci, who was in the car with his (deaf) girlfriend, her (deaf) mother, and 9-year-old son, became impatient and began honking his horn and lurched his vehicle forward, hoping the pedestrians would open a path. Instead, a couple of men from the crowd leaped on the front of his car and one of them smashed his front windshield. Feeling threatened, Pocci slammed on the gas and plowed through the crowd, striking and injuring a 64-year-old woman.

Pocci was later charged and convicted of reckless driving. In December 2015, he was sentenced to 60-days of home confinement and 120 hours of volunteer work.

You can watch the incident unfold in the video below.
