Brendan Dassey's Former Lawyer From 'Making A Murderer' Speaks Out On Conviction Being Overturned

Brendan Dassey's fate in the Making A Murderer case continues to be a roller coaster ride that does not seem to end. Just recently, the conviction against Dassey was overturned, spawning a whole new direction for the case. Not only that, but key players in the case are now starting to speak out on the overturning, including Dassey's former lawyer, Len Kachinsky.

According to The Wrap, Kachinsky said that he "will not be further involved in Dassey's case" and that he has "no opinion as to his factual guilt or innocence." He "expects the State will appeal."

Kachinsky also told The Wrap another key statement: "It should be noted that the ground on which the new trial was ordered was Judge Fox's denial of a motion I filed and litigated to keep Dassey's March 2006 statement out of evidence. So I did my job and kept Dassey's option open."

The Netflix series portrayed Kachinsky as a deal-maker who shadily allowed Dassey to talk himself into his own jail sentence. Steve Kron, a long time criminal defense lawyer and Pepperdine University law professor, told The Wrap that "he could sue his lawyer for putting him in the hands of his investigators, who just ripped him a new one." This is a highly valid option for Dassey, but could cost a lot of money with no real guarantees of success.

Brendan Dassey now has another shot at being heard, but his defense will have to be sound in their execution. It is also hard to tell how much sway the media is having on this case, but either way Dassey is being presented with another chance to stand his ground.
