Nathan Summers is a fan favorite, and actor Stephen Lang (Avatar, 23 Blast) has not been shy about his eagerness to play the part of Cable in the forthcoming Deadpool sequel.

The actor is currently experiencing success with his newly released horror project Don't Breathe, and in an interview with Tony Loconsole (of The Tony Tone Show) he told fans to make themselves heard if they too want to see him land the part.

"Well I mean certainly the Avatar schedule could present logistical problems but I don't know what the status of that is. Last time I looked they haven't announced any casting on the role. I haven't been told that, I haven't been asked to do the role but then again I don't know that I'm not in the running now, so, you know, I kind of continually urge my fans out there to, you know you want to see me as Cable just make yourself heard because they listen to the fans, and that's about as far as I go in campaigning as it were for a role. I think it's a wonderful interesting role and it's one that I think is certainly within my wheelhouse, so I'd love to do it, but I don't know that it's gonna happen. It might not happen."

For those late to the party, this all started when Lang tweeted out a photo of himself posing with the caption "Let's lay some CABLE #DEADPOOL.". Since then he's spoken about the part several times, and if he was offered the role it would be hard to believe that any scheduling conflict wouldn't be solved rather quickly.

As of now, Deadpool 2 has yet to be given an official release date, but there are several held spots in FOX's upcoming schedule that it could fit nicely into.
