Nathan Fillion Describes Crazy Firefly Scene That Was Never Shot

Firefly stands as one of the best swash-buckling space dramas around. Created by Joss Whedon, the cult classic show continues to thrives as fans discover the show years after its cancellation. Armed with stellar characters and clever fight sequences, Firefly is known for its thrilling action that will leave fans feeling shiny. But, according to Nathan Fillion, one of the show's craziest scenes never got shot.

The cast of Firefly recently reunited at Long Beach Comic Con where they reminisced aboutthe show. Actors such as Nathan Fillion, Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin, Jewel Staite, and Sean Maher spent time answered questions at their special panel.

And, naturally, Nathan was more than happy to talk about his character's insane (and unseen) antics.

"Joss once described an opening scene to me where we are looking at a planet with a ring around it and as we come in close, we see the ring is actually rocks and pieces of ships and old derelicts. It's a junk ring. It's the junkyards — we mentioned it in Firefly one time," he said, describing the illusive opening scene where never got filmed.

"We see little bits and we're jumping slowly from bit to bit and as we get closer we see Serenity floating lifeless and these little people getting on and coming through it. And as they get into the airlock and they close it, they come and there's Malcolm Reynolds, bleeding and cut, strapped down with giant guns and not looking great. He's got these two giant guns, and he says, "Get off my ship.""

If there's one thing fans love about Capt. Reynolds, it has to be his quippy remarks. The trench-coat loving character had his fair share of action sequences in the original Firefly series which fans look back on fondly.

Many of those fans hope they'll see the character return one day and take on more crazy scenes like the one Nathan described. Rumors have swirled on-and-off for years now about the revival of Firefly. The show was brought back in 2005 when its spin-off film Serenity hit theaters, but the film failed to impress the box office.

Several original cast members have said they'd gladly return for a second season, a sentiment that they echoed during their recent panel. When asked about a reunion, Adam explained that the decision would be up to Fox.

"Sean and I want more," Jewel said. "Last night we had dinner and we were in an Uber and we were not talking about Firefly in any way....You were on your phone and texting away and, I [said] something about Netflix....And Sean said this, very absentmindedly, "I can't believe they haven't picked us up."
