Earlier this month, Marvel Television dropped a bomb on fans when it announced they would be bringing The Inhumans to life on the small screen. Well, kind of. Marvel's new series will debut on the big screen next year on Labor Day in more than 1,000 theaters worldwide. The occasion will be a first for the studio, and Marvel seems particularly confident that launching The Inhumans on IMAX will make the series a winner.

Ben Sherwood, Disney-ABC Television Group president, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the special launch and described it as a win. "We think this is a quadruple win — a win for Imax, a win for Marvel, a win for ABC Studios and a win for ABC to launch a show in an innovative way and get attention."

Marvel's The Inhumans stands to become an innovative hybrid between traditional film and television, and IMAX footage will be littered throughout the series. The first two episodes of the series will be shot with IMAX cameras while the following six episodes will use the tech to film action sequences. IMAX is footing the bill for the first episodes, so Marvel Television is able to more easily accept the creative launch without budget concerns.

So far, industry insiders think the partnership between Marvel and IMAX will be a groundbreaking one. "It looks like an interesting new way of breaking through clutter, various media options and platforms that people have," says Henry Schafer, executive vp at brand specialist Q Scores. "This is an innovative way of doing that."

For fans, the launch of The Inhumans will give them a new way of viewing primetime content - even if they can't do it from the comfort of their own couches. The special eight-part series will introduce fans to a different area of the Marvel Universe, and it will be timely with the upcoming release of Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War.

Recent updates have also shed light on new story elements of The Inhumans. Fans already knew that the series would focus on the franchise's Royal Family and star Black Bolt. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that parts of the upcoming show will be set on the Moon. This fact is worth noting since the Inhumans have a history with the lunar planet. Their home city of Atillan may be elsewhere in the Marvel Universe at present, but it was once located on the Blue Area of the Moon.

The site is also reporting that the television series won't necessarily negate an feature film one day. Earlier this year, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige said his team hadn't ruled out an Inhumans film, and it seems like the franchise's show might preface an all-out blockbuster one day.
