Most of the attention this year centered on AMC's behemoth The Walking Dead, but the network's newest comic offering quietly made a space for itself, and fans are excited to see what season 2 of Preacher has in store.
So is executive producer Seth Rogen, who shared the first script from the season 2 proceedings, which is titled "On The Road". He tweeted "Very excited to get started on season 2 of #Preacher for about a million reasons" (via ScreenCrush).

The first season of Preacher was much more of a slow burn compared to the original comic, which hit the ground running from the beginning. The show wanted fans to get to know some of these characters before the events of the book, so they took a different approach. Co-creator of the original Preacher Garth Enis previously discussed the purposeful choice, saying "We've talked about this before, I mean I confirmed for them a suspicion that they'd arrived at anyway that they were going to have to change it. The breathless pace of the book just wouldn't translate that way to the screen. They were going to have to calm it down a little bit, and I said just keep the spirit."
Season 2 will begin right where the book originally started, so fans should start to see even more links between the two.
Based on the popular cult comic book franchise of the same name, "Preacher" is a supernatural, twisted and darkly comedic drama that follows a West Texas preacher named Jesse Custer, who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that causes him to develop a highly unusual power. Jesse, his badass ex -girlfriend Tulip and an Irish vagabond named Cassidy come together and when they do, they are thrust into a crazy world populated by a cast of characters from heaven, hell and everywhere in between.
The series stars Dominic Cooper ("Captain America: The First Avenger," "Need for Speed") as Jesse Custer, Ruth Negga ("World War Z," "The Samaritan") as Tulip, Joseph Gilgun ("This is England," "Lockout") as Cassidy, Lucy Griffiths ("Winter's Tale," "Robin Hood") as Emily, Earl W. Brown ("There's Something About Mary," "Scream") as Sheriff Root, Ian Colletti ("Phoebe in Wonderland," "Baby Momma") as Eugene and Derek Wilson ( "Rectify") as Donnie Schenck.
Preacher returns to AMC in 2017.
