He's one of the best to ever play on the hardwood and now he has a child named after one of Marvel's rising stars. Tim Duncan and his longtime girlfriend Vanessa Macias welcomed their first child — a baby girl named Quill — into the world last week.

Duncan, a self-admitted Dungeons & Dragons and World of Warcraft fan, said the couple named their child for a combination of reasons — one being the namesake of Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star-Lord, and the other to pay tribute to Mascias' time as a writer.

"My girlfriend, she also writes a lot too, so it's like a pen quill," Duncan told Fox Sports. "It's a combination of all the things."

Mainly known for his 19-year career with the San Antonio Spurs, the five-time NBA champion — who also happens to be a big comic book fan — found his way onto a cover of The Punisher in 2014.

While Duncan is now retired from the NBA, he can take some of his extra time and make sure Quill sees her namesake in his second live action movie on May 5.
