'Thor: Ragnarok': Mark Ruffalo Praises Film's Female Leads

When Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters this November audiences will get to see two new major female characters join the Marvel Cinematic Universe and one of the film's stars has nothing but praise for the female leads and the characters they bring to life.

Mark Ruffalo, who plays Hulk in the film and the MCU at large, spoke with The Indian Express about how great it is to have both Cate Blanchett and Tessa Thompson in the film.

"It's great that we have Blanchett and Thompson, these two amazing, powerful, strong, beautiful, intelligent women, playing these two important, integral characters in this movie," Ruffalo said.

In Thor: Ragnarok Blanchett plays Hela, the first ever female villain in the MCU and if Ruffalo's praise is an indication, she might just be one of the best villains yet.

"We have Hela, played by Blanchett," Ruffalo said. "She has all the power, all the strength, all the talent of any of the other gods, but with all the rage. She's angry, and she wants to come back and take what she feels is rightfully hers. Except that she's been pushed so far into the darkness that she's become dark. She's now the manifestation of death."

Marvel fans will certainly Ruffalo's mention that Hela is death extra interesting considering that in comics Lady Death is an actual character, one that Thanos happens to have a thing for. But Ruffalo doesn't get into the potential implications Hela could have on future films. Instead, he sheds some light on the other badass lady give Thor a run for his money in Ragnarok, Thompson's Valkyrie

"Then you have Valkyrie, played by Thompson," Ruffalo said. "She is another female presence who didn't feel welcome. She's a powerhouse and a brilliant fighter. She’s as equally as powerful as Thor. She's a warrior. Valkyrie is one of the people who ended up banishing Hela from Asgard. But she's also lost faith in the patriarchy and the elite power structure."

Audiences will see for themselves just how great Blanchett and Thompson are as Thor: Ragnarok's leading ladies when the film hits theaters on November 3rd.

Thor: Ragnarok currently has a 4.17 out of 5 on ComicBook.com's anticipation rankings.
