One of the most famous manifestations of Darth Vader's villainy came in the form of the Force-choke, an extension of his Sith abilities that allowed him to asphyxiate a victim across vast distances. In The Last Jedi, Kylo Ren's abilities began to mirror his grandfather's, with General Hux falling victim to the famous maneuver. According to actor Domhnall Gleeson, conveying the attack was much more easily said than done.

"It's funny because you look at it and you're like, I don't know where to put, I don't know if it's supposed to be the feeling of an actual hand or whether it's just compressing on itself, you know what I mean?" Gleeson shared with USA Today. "Do you scramble up to where you think the hand would be? Or do you scramble in at the neck itself? And are you trying to relieve it or trying to help?"

With there not being an official, canonical answer to the question, Gleeson was allowed to come to that decision on his own.

"Decided that it was a...that you can't feel the hand, you just feel like your throat is caving in," the actor admitted.

Audiences first discovered the Force-choke during a heated debate aboard the Death Star in which Admiral Motti fell on the receiving end of the attack after some harsh words about the ways of the Sith. While the scene was iconic, Gleeson admitted it wasn't a specific influence on his own interpretation of the attack.

"I had seen it before, so, I mean I didn't go back to it specifically, but yeah, no, I had seen it before," Gleeson shared. "I knew the deal."

Gleeson clearly knew Hux's fate after reading the script, yet the actor initially thought the character could die in the film, given he wasn't an integral component in the story of Kylo Ren and Rey.

"I'll be honest, I was very surprised that [General Hux] survived," Gleeson shared with MTV's Happy Sad Confused. "I kind of imagined myself getting blown up in a ship pretty early on."

Hux will next be seen in Episode IX, landing in theaters on December 20, 2019.

The Last Jedi is in theaters now.
