Dragon Ball Super has been around for a couple years now, and it has debuted its fair share of Super Saiyan forms in that time. The series showcased transformations like Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue, but it is Future Trunk’s latest power-up that still has fans buzzing. So, it’s about time anime lovers revisited the action-packed moment once again.

Future Trunks introduced his new Super Saiyan form by accident in the anime’s ‘Future Trunks’ saga. The release occurred during his battle against Goku Black and Future Zamasu after Goku and Vegeta were beaten down.
“Zamasu’s Ambition – The Awful ‘Zero Mortal Plan’ Is Revealed” is the episode which hosts the debut of Super Saiyan Anger. As you can see in the clip above, Future Trunks is pushed into releasing his new power once his opponents blame him for all the destruction they’ve caused. The pair ridicule the boy for wanting to save everyone, but Future Trunks doesn’t take the slight lightly.
“If you call that a sin, then I don’t care,” Future Trunks screams before he powers into his new form. “Black, I will kill you myself.”
In the anime, Future Trunks winds up transforming into an entirely new Super Saiyan form. Aptly called Super Saiyan Rage, the transformation goes beyond anything Kaoi-Ken could do as it mixes traditional SSJ2 and SSJ3 forms. The hero takes on a Super SSJ2 look while his coloring goes even deeper than what Goku experiences when he goes SSJ3. Future Trunks also loses his pupils when he powers up, giving him a similar look to Broly’s LSSJ form and Vegeta’s Quake of Fury.
When Future Trunks enters the volatile Super Saiyan form, he is able to go toe-to-toe with Goku Black and Future Zamasu. In fact, the hero is able to fight both at the same time when when Goku Black transforms into his Super Saiyan Rose state. The anime teases Super Saiyan Anger has even more power-ups, but Trunks only uses the form long enough to give Goku and Vegeta a chance to figure out how they can stop their opponents.
In the manga, Future Trunks is never given the fearsome Super Saiyan boost as it simply sees the hero power into his Super Saiyan 2 form. The state is strengthened in comparison, but it does leave out Trunk’s yellow-and-blue aura. So, really, it isn’t hard to see why fans prefer the boy’s fight in the anime over his outing in the manga. After all, who doesn’t like to see new Super Saiyan forms step out every once in awhile?
