It’s no secret: there’s a lot of Naruto out there to read. Between the franchise’s manga and data books, fans could easily spend years catching up on all things Konoha. But, if you missed Itachi Shinden, then you overlooked the epilogue that revealed the truth of the Uchiha Massacre.
The novel, which was illustrated by creator Masashi Kishimoto, is the second part of Itachi’s backstory. The sequel goes into how the Uchiha Massacre happened in real-time, and one heart-breaking piece of artwork from the book is making it around the Internet.
You’ve been warned; You may very well cry.
As you can see below, Kishimoto drew a harrowing panel of Itachi during the massacre. The boy may have been prepared to kill thanks to his ANBU years, but nothing could prepare him for killing children. The picture shows Itachi dragging one of his relatives out of a closet where they had hidden, and Itachi’s drawn sword speaks volumes.
Even the Children from Naruto
If you have read the novel, Itachi went into the massacre with the help of a masked man. The help, who fans know now was Madara, told Itachi that he would kill all of the Uchiha children and women as his skillset would help prevent any undue screaming.
“So you’ve begun?” Madara asks Itachi as one point. “I will take care of the women and children as far as possible.”
Clearly, Madara was unable to take upon the full brunt of such murders. Itachi was forced to kill his clan’s youngest members in order to protect Konoha from its own beauracratic poison, and fans can’t help but fell sick seeing the proof before their own eyes.
