Dragon Ball Super fans are at max power when it comes ot anticipation for the two-part special event that will be airing this weekend. Goku will be battling the mysterious Jiren of Universe 11, in a battle that will reveal power levels we've never seen in the series!
As the milestone battle approaches, dedicated fans have been piecing together more and more clues about how Goku goes from a futile attempt to use his max power levels against Jiren, to achieving the bold new transformation that has been teased for months now.
Well, we can now add one more spoiler to the pile, as another detail of Goku and Jiren's battle has been revealed in some new translations. Read on below for SPOILERS on how Jiren will withstand Goku's Spirit Bomb attack!
In preview of Dragon Ball Super 109 - 110 above, you can see Goku's progression of powerful attacks against Jiren, starting with Super Saiyan Blue, then a Kaio-Ken 20x power boost, and finally a Spirit Bomb. However, in some new translations that appeared over on Reddit, we now get a minor detail that says a whole lot.
"Finally, Universe 11’s strongest warrior Jiren begins to move. Jiren releases his ki and overwhelms all of the fighters. Goku raises his power to the limit, and challenges Jiren with his full set of skills!"
And from the Weekly Shōnen Jump Summary:
The final phase of the Tournament of Power: the "strongest" go into action!
Universe 11's Jiren has remained silent up until now, but he finally enters the fray! Merely by rousing himself to fight, this formidable foe gives off a fearsomely intimidating air, and Goku challenges him to one-on-one combat!
The gods of Universe 11 give him the go-ahead!
Sensing that this is the turning point, they order their ace-in-the-hole Jiren to battle.
Goku This Week: Using his ace-in-the-hole Genki Dama!**
Even fighting as Super Saiyan Blue, Goku is unable to scratch Jiren, so he challenges him with his strongest special attack, the Genki Dama. Will it work against Jiren, who still seems to have power to spare?
Vegeta's amazed too!
And from the Animedia Summary:
While Gohan has a tough fight, Son Goku and Ribrianne's battle continues. Ribrianne wants to win the "Tournament of Power" so that she can become a goddess beloved by humanity throughout all the universe, and she attacks Goku at full power. Meanwhile Universe 11's Jiren (who has been conserving his power up until now) finally goes into action, and appears before Goku. With his unthinkably colossal ki, Jiren overwhelms Goku and the other warriors.
And finally, here's a translation from a mystery source:
On October 8th, two episodes are being broadcast back-to-back, with the title "Autumn One-Hour Special: This is the No. 1 Ultimate Battle in the Omni-Verse! Son Goku vs Jiren!!" Universe 11's strongest warrior, Jiren, finally goes into action. His power is overwhelming, and though Super Saiyan Blue Goku challenges him by raising Kaio-Ken up to the maximum, it is still of no use.
Memo: Goku has all of his attacks deflected, and is knocked down. However, a ki never seen before erupts from his body.
From the what these various translations describe, it seems that Jiren will unleash a Ki unlike any we've ever seen in Dragon Ball! That power will be so massive that it rattles the entire Universe 7 team (even Vegeta!), and pits Goku in a battle with Jiren where it is quickly revealed that the Universe 11 fighter's Ki isn't merely for show!
It's noted that Jiren will "deflect" every one of Goku's attacks, which means he will be able to shrug off whatever attacks Goku launches while using his Kaio-Ken 20x power boost, as well as The Spirit Bomb!
Spirit Bombs have of course been deflected before in Dragon Ball; it used to be the rule that only one pure of heart could deflect one, but in the Buu saga we learned that "pure of heart" is a term open to interpretation, as Buu's purely evil heart allowed him to deflect one. However, with Jiren able to deflect what is essentially a x20 God Spirit Bomb in his SSB form, we are indeed about to meet a level of fighter that will change everything about the world of Dragon Ball Super.
This is all leading up to Goku's new transformation, which is supposedly called "Mastery of Self Movement." From the name, it's implied that Goku will reach a form that allows him to fight faster than the speed of conscious thought; how the Spirit Bomb factors into that transformation, and what will become of Goku afterward, is what we're all eager to see.
Dragon Ball Super airs on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST. Toonami also airs the English dub on Adult Swim Saturdays at 11:30 p.m.
