Attack on Titan is one of anime's biggest franchises, and fans always want more of it. After a long hiatus, the show returned last year with its second season and a third is slated to debut in 2018. Wit Studio even put out an OVA for Attack on Titan to tide fans over, but several of its scenes caught fans' eyes.

After all, the short did have some pretty direct easter eggs to Attack on Titan's first season.

Last month, Attack on Titan: Lost Girls released its first OVA short. The special focused on Annie Leonhart as it told an aside story about the soldier before her true identity was revealed. Lost Girls follows Annie as she is tasked with finding a lost girl for a wealthy Paradis family, but the mission is not all that simple. The OVA saw Annie smack down a few low-life loiterers who talked big, and it was in those scenes fans caught some throwbacks.

As you can see above, fans took to Twitter to point out how the Attack on Titan: Lost Girls episode mirrored fight sequences from its first season. In the anime's fourth episode, fans watched as Annie fought Eren without mercy. The boy got his butt handed to him by Annie, and she did the same to the thugs in Lost Girls.

While plenty were excited to see the bleed over, others were less than impressed. It has been quite some time since Annie got any anime attention, so fans had hoped the OVA would give her all-new action sequences instead of something recycled. However, it is not uncommon for animation studios to reuse fight choreography for aside projects and OVAs. The newest release simply dressed up Annie's original showdown with Eren in a new package, and her takedown is just as brutal now as it was the first time around.

For those unfamiliar with Attack on Titan, the series was originally created by Hajime Isayama. Starting its run in Kondansha's Bessatsu Shonen Magazine in 2009, the series has been collected into 23 volumes as of 2017. It's set in a world where the last remnants of humanity live within a walled city in order to escape the danger of the Titans, a race of giants monsters that eats humans. Eren Yeager joins the military with his two childhood friends Mikasa and Armin after the Titans break through the wall and attack his hometown.
