John Carter Posts Biggest Opening Day In History (In Russia)

The Russians have spoken, and they love John Carter. While box office forecasters are not predicting a stellar opening for John Carter in the United States, the international market could be a different story. According to Entertainment Weekly, Disney has announced that John Carter posted the biggest opening day ever in Russia, taking in $6.5 million. What's more surprising than the fact that John Carter set a record though is just how much lower the Russian box office is than the U.S. box office. By contrast, Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part 2 holds the biggest opening day ever record at the U.S. box office with a total of $91 million. In the U.S., John Carter took in $500,000 at midnight showings on Thursday.
