Watchmen Fans Aren't So Scary, Says Zack Snyder

In a talk with zombie mastermind Robert Kirkman at this weekend's Hero Complex Festival in Los Angeles, Man of Steel director Zack Snyder, whose previous films include Watchmen, 300 and a remake of George A. Romero's zombie masterpiece Dawn of the Dead, told the audience that Watchmen fans have nothing on Romero's followers. Someone should probably alert Dan DiDio, who has spent the better part of the last few months fighting a tidal wave of bad press coming off the Before Watchmen announcement. "Zombie fans [were more strident], for sure. One hundred percent sure," said Snyder when pressed, according to The Los Angeles Times. "I feel like the Watchmen fans, you can reason with them, you know. When they have you in an alley, you can talk your way kind of out of there. But zombie fans are certainly much more — especially before the movie came out, and we were just talking about what the movie would be, and how we would remake Dawn of the Dead, it was pretty intense." Of course, Dawn of the Dead had already been a film and, to many zombie fans, one that didn't need improving, and was unlikely to find it under Snyder's direction. Watchmen's 25-year trek to the big screen had shaken off most of the cynics over the years, who hardly believed that the thing would be made at all by the time it was all done. And, to use his own words, it's easier to convince someone that changes need to be made in order to transition from one medium to another (comics to film), whereas it's harder to reason with somebody that something needs to be updated just because "the old one is old."
