Arrow Digital Comic Coming With Art By Mike Grell

Mike Grell, who spoke with ComicBook.com earlier this week about his creation, Eddie Fyres, will provide art on the first chapter of a new digital comic based on the CW series Arrow, according to his website. The series will launch October 10 and is set to be written by Arrow executive producers Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim. As with Smallville, the Arrow comic will be published online weekly and then collected once a month into a print edition. While DC Comics's blog, The Source, had reported that legendary Green Arrow artist Grell would draw covers for the first two issues of the digital-first series, the artist reports that the covers he's providing will be for the print edition, while he'll platoon with two other artists on the actual stories. "I'll be leading off and alternating chapters with two other artists (unnamed as yet) on each of the 3 part issues, which will then be collected in print," blogged Grell. "I'll also be doing covers for the print edition." Grell noted that he's particularly excited to be working on the newest iteration of Oliver Queen in light of the 25th anniversary of his most famous work, The Longbow Hunters, in which Fyres was introduced. Those artists appear to be Sergio Sandoval and Jorge Jimenez, whose names were mentioned in DC's blog post. "This is incredibly exciting for us. For one thing, Andrew and I are not just television and comic book writers -- we're comic book fans," said Guggenheim, who has written for DC Comics in the past, including a short but well-liked run on The Flash: The Fastest Man Alive.  We're also extremely excited to be doing something that I don't think has ever been done before:  a weekly comic which ties directly into a TV series with stories that fill in important gaps in the television narrative and written by the show's writing staff."
