While the first nine minutes of Star Trek Into Darkness won’t be shown to the general public until IMAX showings of The Hobbit start next weekend, some members of the press got an early sneak preview and spoilers are starting to leak out online. In what shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, the prologue does not reveal the identity of Benedict Cumberbatch.
According to SuperHeroHype, Star Trek Into Darkness begins with Noel Clarke and Kayla Hassan's characters in a fairly domestic scene. After waking up and eating breakfast, they visit a little girl (probably their daughter) in a hospital. Outside the hospital, Benedict Cumberbatch’s character approaches Noel Clarke and tells him that he can help. Clarke actually asks Cumberbatch who he is, but Cumberbatch only smiles. Evidently, Cumberbatch’s character must have some type of healing power.
After the hospital scene, the next scene focuses on the red-colored planet already revealed in the trailer. As shown in the trailer, Kirk and McCory take a running leap off a cliff into water, but the prologue reveals that the Enterprise is actually hidden at the bottom of the planet’s ocean.
The prologue does reveal why Spock is in the volcano. Using a shuttle, Spock, Uhura, and Sulu actually travel inside the volcano. Then, Spock heads into the volcano to prevent if from erupting.
Star Trek Into Darkness will be released in theaters in the United States on May 17, 2013.
