Seth Grahame-Smith, best known for his novels Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter, was tapped back in 2011 to write a script for a new Beetlejuice movie and then...nothing. Crickets. Until today. The author just tweeted the image at right, along with the message "It's showtime," a pretty clear indication that work is beginning in earnest on reviving the long-dormant property from Batman director and star Tim Burton and Michael Keaton. Whether Burton or Keaton would return for such a film, nobody's quite sure--but Grahame-Smith has indicated in the past that at least Keaton will be involved. "I met with Michael Keaton last week," Grahame-Smith told IFC in February of last year. "We talked for a couple of hours and talked about big picture stuff. It's a priority for Warner Bros. It's a priority for Tim....[Keaton has] been wanting to do it for 20 years and he'll talk to anybody about it who will listen. I really told him, I have a huge reverence for Tim and a huge reverence for that film in general. I don't think we should do it if we shit on the legacy. He agrees. So, right now, it remains to be seen, I have a couple of story ideas, but we're very early out." After a successful film and an animated series, Beetlejuice's last onscreen appearance came--improbably--on an episode of Community. Check it out below.
