Superman Returns vs. Man Of Steel

In spite of being remembered pretty uncharitably, Superman Returns got pretty decent reviews when it hit theaters almost ten years ago--and it did decent box office, too. At $200 million domestic, it's not considered a success (it had a production budget of $270 million) but one thing it was, was the top-grossing Superman movie of all time. That is set to change at the domestic box office this weekend as Man of Steel, currently sitting at $181 million, will likely eclipse the $200 million mark today or early tomorrow. The film's current worldwide gross, however, is another story. Returns did remarkably well in non-U.S. markets, with a global total of $391 million. Man of Steel is widely expected to overtake that number, but will probably take another few weeks to do so, especially facing off against tough competition each of the next few weeks.
