Alright, so earlier today we talked about exactly which version of Lex Luthor might turn up in the presumptive sequel to Man of Steel, which could go into production as early as next year. Then, just an hour or so ago, we gave you a candidate for each of the different "eras" of Lex Luthor, suggesting some of our favorite candidates for the role. Well, one of the ones we counted out for practical reasons (we didn't think he'd do it even if asked) seems to have tossed his hat into the ring. Michael Rosenbaum, who appeared as Lex Luthor in more than 150 episodes of the long-running CW series Smallville, seemed earlier today to be trying to motivate fans on Twitter to make his candidacy for the job a reality. "Can the Superman fans out there spread the word that there's really no other choice?" tweeted Rosenbaum in response to an article where he was one of a number of candidates for the part. "Let [Bryan] Cranston stick to meth. Thanks," he added, a reference to the Breaking Bad star who has (along with Bruce Willis and Michael Chiklis) been one of the overall favorites bandied around by fans and press organizations. "I'm very excited about what the future holds, but certainly, Smallville will always be a part of me," the actor wrote in an open letter to fans when he left the series back in 2008. He made a cameo appearance in the series finale in 2011, as well--on a television set, in the future, when Lex was being sworn in as President of the United States.
