Ben Affleck as Batman

The question on everyone's mind for the last sixteen hours or so--"How did Ben Affleck become the choice to play Batman?"--has been answered. Man of Steel director Zack Snyder, who will also be behind the camera for the upcoming Batman vs. Superman, actually discussed the choice in his original statement, saying that part of the appeal of the veteran action star is making him a counterpoint to the comparably young and inexperienced Superman that Henry Cavill brings to the table. Of course, anything in that original statement pretty much got overwhelmed by the simple fact being laid on the table that Affleck was Batman. "Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry [Cavill]'s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne," Snyder said of casting the star. That Affleck has already been around the block a few times, playing George Reeves--playing Daredevil and even reportedly having been offered Justice League to direct--could actually be part of the consideration that worked for him with Snyder, then, whereas it worked against him with many fans. Who would have thought?
