Ever since the internet backlash over Ben Affleck being cast as Batman, there has been one man who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in singing Affleck’s praises. No, we’re not talking about Kevin Smith. While it’s true that Kevin Smith has been very supportive of Affleck’s casting, he’s expected to have his longtime buddy’s back.
We’re talking about a man, who actually works for the competition. There has been perhaps no bigger Affleck supporter over the last month than Stan “The Man” Lee. While it’s pretty standard practice for all journalists to ask Stan Lee about his Marvel movie cameos in every single interview, there also now seems to be a requirement to ask him about Ben Affleck’s Batman casting.
And every time Stan Lee is asked the question, he delivers a ringing endorsement for Ben Affleck. We’ve actually lost count of how many times Stan Lee has endorsed Ben Affleck.
During an appearance at Fan Expo Canada, Stan Lee said, “Well, I have to tell you. I think he’s a fine actor. I think in Daredevil, it wasn’t his fault. I think he was directed badly. But that’s just me. I have a feeling…I have nothing to do with Batman as you know…but I have a feeling he’ll do a good job. Whether the public will like him, I don’t know, but I think he’s a good actor, great director too.”
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Stan Lee said, “I’m one of the few people who think it’s a good idea. Ben Affleck is a good actor, and a good director, and I think he’ll surprise a lot of people.”
In an interview with TooFab, Stan Lee said, “He’s a good actor, and I wish him all the luck in the world. I feel he’ll probably do a good job as Batman.”
With all the praise that Stan Lee has delivered for Ben Affleck, we have to wonder if Affleck will do anything to return the favor. At various conventions throughout the year, Stan Lee has often joked about how he would like to do a cameo in a DC Comics movie. We think Ben Affleck should push to get Stan Lee a brief cameo in Batman Vs. Superman to pay him back for all the kind words.
