The Hunger Games Catching Fire Box Office

Despite facing some stiff competition from Frozen, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire won its second weekend in a row at the U.S. box office. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire took in another $74.5 million at the U.S box office over the weekend with Frozen finishing in second place with $66.7 million. Thor: The Dark World finished a distant third with $11.1 million.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has now made $296.5 million at the U.S. box office in just 10 days of release. Over the weekend, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire overtook the Man of Steel, which grossed $291 million during its entire U.S. box office run. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is now the third highest grossing film of 2013 so far at the domestic box office. Iron Man 3 is still the highest grossing film of the year in the U.S. with $409 million, and Despicable Me 2 is still in second place with $366.9 million.

At the worldwide box office, Man of Steel still has a lead over The Hunger Games: Catching Fire with $662.8 million compared to $573 million respectively. However, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will soon likely catch and pass Man of Steel at the worldwide box office as well. Many are projecting that The Hunger Games: Catching Fire could eventually join Iron Man 3 and become the second film of the year to gross over $1  billion at the worldwide box office.
