Magic The Gathering Movie

The popular Hasbro fantasy card game known as Magic: The Gathering is heading to the big screen. According to The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox has acquired the movie rights to the game and plans to develop a Harry Potter-size movie franchise around the game. Fox has reportedly hired Simon Kinberg to produce the Magic: The Gathering movie. Comic book movie fans will likely recognize Kinberg's name because he's also in charge of developing the X-Men and Fantastic Four movie franchises. Kinberg will work with Hasbro executives in overseeing the movie's development. Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis and Wizards of the Coast president Greg Leeds are said to be acting in production capacities. Magic: The Gathering was first launched as a card game by Wizards of the Coast. Magic cards have become extremely collectible with rare cards being very valuable. The game is hugely popular in comic book stores, which often sell the cards. Magic tournaments are often held at comic book conventions worldwide. Wizards of the Coast and thus the Magic: The Gathering game were acquired by Hasbro in 1999.
