Wayward Manor

We love comics, and we love movies, but we also love video games. 2014 looks like it's going to be a good year for them too. What follows is a list of the games we plan to spend our free time playing this year. You know, when we're not at a theater or a comic shop…

5. Wayward Manor

Neil Gaiman's work has already made it's way from comics into novels, movies, television and radio. This year, we'll get to see his first work in video game form in Wayward Manor, being developed by the Odd Gentlemen (The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbttom). The game has players playing the role of a poltergeist. When the Budd family decides to move into your Victorian estate uninvited, you go about trying to scare them out of their wits until they leave. Its a unique premise from a solid developer and an all-star creator.

4. Dragon Age Inquisition

There isn't a huge amount of information available about the third entry in the Dragon Age franchise just yet. We know that it takes place after the events of Dragon Age II, which has sparked a massive war between mages and the Chantry. We know that it seeks to fuse gameplay elements of Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II. We know that it is going to be much more open-ended, and has been compared to Skyrim in terms of scope. A lot of people were disappointed with Dragon Age II, but it seems like BioWare is on track to make things right.

3. Watch Dogs

One of the most talked about games to get previewed over the course of 2013, Watch Dogs holds a ton of promise. The idea of playing as a hacker revolutionary in Chicago is cool enough on its own, but then there's the multiplayer element. Outside players can actually infiltrate another player's single player game and steal data from them. It's an interesting twist on multiplayer from a game that already has a ton of unique gameplay element in single player. Keep an eye on this one.

2. Transistor

Supergiant Games' Bastion was one of the best indie games of the last console generation. It's visual flair and unique narration made it stand out and the ability to choose different weapon loadouts to manifest unique gameplay styles put a fun twist on classic action-RPG gameplay. In 2014, Supergiant is back with Transistor, a game about a young singer named Red who finds herself on the run when she comes into possession of a powerful and intelligent sword. The game looks darker than Bastion, but it still has a ton of visual flare and could end up being another indie game wonder.

1. InFamous: Second Son

The next installment of Sucker Punch's superpowered sandbox series, InFamous, looks like it could be the first real system seller for the nascent PlayStation 4. Sucker Punch has moved the game's setting to Seattle, Washington and introduced a new protagonist, the young graphitti artist Deslin Rowe, in an attempt to keep things fresh. Sounds good, as long as it's got more of the open-ended super-fantasy gameplay we've come to know and love.
