The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Viral Site Hints at Flash Thompson as Venom?

An entry made yesterday on The Daily Bugle Tumblr, a viral site for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, may be hinting at the Flash Thompson version of Venom appearing in the character's forthcoming solo film debut. When the fictional newspaper asked New Yorkers for their opinions on Spider-Man, here's what Flash had to say: "He's probably just a regular guy who got his powers by accident. Who cares? What really matters is what he's doing with them now that he has them, right? Spidey's keeping the streets clean and sticking up for everyday New Yorkers. He's showing us we gotta stick up for ourselves, too. He saved us from the Lizard in our High School and no matter who he turns out to be, I'm always going to be on his side." Flash has never really been the altruistic type on screen, but in the comics, he was a veteran who came back from war disabled and ultimately took on the Venom symbiote as a way to continue serving depite his injuries. With a Venom feature film on the way and many wondering how Sony plans to make not just one but two films featuring Spider-Man's villains (the other being Sinister Six), could the "I'm always going to be by [Spider-Man's] side" be a hint? If so, what role would that provide for Eddie Brock? The character, who was Venom from the character's creation until nearly 20 years later, appeared in Spider-Man 3, but surely just that isn't enough to retcon him out of existence in Spidey's cinematic continuity, is it?
