Last week saw the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the second of Marc Webb's three films starring Andrew Garfield and the first of the building blocks leading up to spinoff films The Sinister Six and Venom. The movie was based, at least in significant part, on the writing of Gerry Conway, the Amazing Spider-Man scribe best known for having killed Gwen Stacy in the comics. We examined that story, and how it related to the film, in this article. At the time, Conway and Marvel got a mixed response from fans, including some very irate about the death of a beloved character. Apparently, forty years passing hasn't dulled that feeling very much. "I enjoyed the movie, but my favorite part came after the film, when my eighteen-year old daughter turned to me and said, 'Dad, you suck!' As creators and parents, it's moments like this we live for," Conway told us, noting that he'd tweeted more of his thoughts on the film itself.
