Molly Ringwald has joined the cast of Jem and the Holograms, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The news comes shortly after it was announced that Juliette Lewis was being added to the cast of the film in an unspecified supporting role. Where Lewis seems particularly well suited for a role in the film due to her experience fronting a rock band and as a solo musician, Ringwald seems like another apt choice due to her status an icon of 1980s popular culture, thanks to her leading roles in John Hughes' Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, and Pretty in Pink. Jem and the Holograms is based on the 1980s Hasbro cartoon series about Jerrica Benton, a young girl who uses the holographic computer called Synergy to transform herself into Jem, the lead singer of the Holograms. The film will present Jem as an internet music star who finds herself on an adventure in Los Angeles. Jem in the Holograms recently cast it's leads, with Audrey Peeples set to play Jem, Stefanie Scott as Kimber, Aurora Perrineau as Shana, and Hayley Kiyoko as Aja. Ryan Guzman also joined the cast as Rio. Jon M. Chu will direct.
