X-Men: Days of Future Past Generating 90% of all Ticket Preorders on Fandango

According to the popular online and mobile ticketing agent Fandango, X-Men: Days of Future Past is pacing to be the biggest X-Men franchise opening in Fandango history, overpowering the company's previous record-holder, 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand. That film also remains the high water mark of the franchise at the box office in general, in spite of poor reviews and a notorious reputation among fans. The Last Stand generated $102 million over its opening three days and $122 million over the four-day Memorial Day Weekend in 2006 -- a number that Days of Future Past hopes to eclipse this weekend. Most experts have pegged it between $95 and $105 million for the four-day weekend, which wouldn't overtake The Last Stand but would give the film easily the second-highest debut in franchise history (the current second place film is X2: X-Men United with just under $86 million). Days of Future Past is currently commanding more than 90% of the company's Memorial Day Weekend ticket sales, and topping Fandango's Fanticipation movie buzz indicator, with 93 out of 100 points. The site also briefly interviewed star Hugh Jackman on their Weekend Ticket show. If Days of Future Past can surpass $100 million, it will not only be an auspicious debut against solid competition (last week's overperforming Godzilla is still only in its second week, after all) but more importantly for Fox, it would snap the trend of mediocre openings for X-Men films, a problem they've had since X-Men Origins: Wolverine opened at $85 million and became instantly notorious. X-Men: First Class and The Wolverine both debuted at less than $60 million.
