The Hulk, arguably, came away from the first Avengers movie with the biggest spike in popularity of any of the characters involved. The character's solo film, The Incredible Hulk, was not quite the breakout success as Iron Man, but Avengers director Joss Whedon used the character as a tool to build tension, facilitate big action scenes, and deploy some comic relief among that film's ensemble cast in a way that greatly endeared Hulk to fans. According to Mark Ruffalo, who plays Bruce Banner, we can expect to see a more fleshed out Hulk in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

"[My role's] even bigger than last time, and it's more complex and it has more layers and a bit more arc" the star says," Ruffalo said in an interview in the latest issue of Total Film.

Ruffalo also mentioned that he is embracing the motion capture technology needed to transform him into Marvel's "Jade Giant" much more readily this time around.

"I'm really tripping on the technology of this motion-capture stuff… now I just completely embrace it and see it as this other exciting place we can go as performers."

Avengers: Age of Ultron comes to theaters May 1, 2015.
