TNT is pushing Michael Bay’s new action-adventure series, The Last Ship, with two big events in New York City.
The Last Ship opens with a global catastrophe that nearly decimates the world's population. Because of its positioning, the Navy destroyer U.S.S. Nathan James avoids falling victim to the devastating tragedy. But now the crew and its captain must confront the reality of their new existence in a world where they may be among the few remaining survivors.
The catalyst of the apocalyptic events in The Last Ship is a deadly, pandemic virus, making gas masks the best line of defense. The first event to promote the series will be Survival is an Art: The Last Ship Experience, an art and fashion show featuring gas masks and fashion inspired by the post-apocalypse genre and designed by up-and-coming artists. The show will be held Dia 545 on June 20 and feature work by Irene Luft, Gary Lockwood, the Bob Basset Workshop, Tom Banwell, Nathan Vincent, Singer Blake, Wren Britton and Howie Katz.
The second event will be a takeover of Grand Central Terminal. Using the idea of an apocalyptic pandemic as inspiration, TNT will team with Purell to transform Grand Central Terminal using imagery from The Last Ship and Purell sanitation stations displaying messages such as "The virus isn't the only enemy," "80% of the world is dead. Whatever you do, don't breathe," and "The virus spreads June 22. Be prepared." The takeover begins today and will continue for four weeks.
The Last Ship premiers on TNT Sunday, June 22 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
