There is a new world record for the highest price ever paid for a comic book at auction. As many had predicted, a CGC 9.0 graded copy of Action Comics #1 wound up breaking the $3 million barrier.
In an ebay auction that just ended, the winning bid was $3,207,852.00. The previous record holder was another CGC 9.0 grade copy of Action Comics #1, which was sold by ComicConnect.com for a record $2,161,000 in 2011.
Action Comics #1 was published in 1938 and features the first appearance of Superman. A portion of the proceeds from the auction will benefit the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.
