In 1868 England, thief Dario Brando raids an overturned carriage, thinking that its occupants are dead. But upon discovering George Joestar and his young son, Jonathan (nicknamed JoJo), alive, Dario appears to have saved them. George promises to forever be indebted to Dario. Twelve years later, JoJo is an aspiring gentleman when the dying Dario orders his son, Dio, to fulfill George's debt by moving in with the Joestars. Malevolent Dio agrees to do so, but he secretly vows to displace JoJo as heir.
