J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) is making the jump to the DC Universe when he makes his debut in Justice League as Commissioner Gordon, but of course, he has already starred in Sony's original Spider-Man films as J. Jonah Jameson.

Using this as a foundation, Stephen Colbert brought up a very important issue that some may have overlooked.

"Soon you'll be Commissioner Gordon in the Justice League movies. Now can you legally do that, because you're also in the Marvel Universe as J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man. Do you need a special passport to get from the Marvel Universe to the DC Universe?"

Simmons responded: "I don't have it yet. The paperwork is in progress so, I start in a couple of months so hopefully, all of those things will get sorted out by then."

It's a good thing we have Colbert to point out these existential issues and bring them to the forefront. All kidding aside, it's the deadpan delivery that makes it funny, and Colbert is so good at it.

As for J.K.Simmons, the part of Gordon is certainly a far cry from J. Jonah's larger than life personality, and I'll be interested to see how he approaches the character.

Justice League hits theatres on November 17th, 2017.
