Supergirl's Calista Flockhart May Not Return as Series Regular

Cat Grant could be playing a reduced role on Supergirl when it heads to The CW next season.

While saying that discussions with actress Calista Flockhart are "ongoing," The CW chief Mark Pedowitz told reporters this morning that “We’re happy to have her in whatever capacity is worked out.”

Flockhart is based out of Los Angeles, and almost immediately after rumors started to swirl about moving the production to Vancouver, insiders wondered whether it would be possible to keep the actress on board. While he didn't commit to it, Pedowitz seemed to indicate that Flockhart will definitely appear on Supergirl, although it's possible she might not be in every episode like she was during the show's Hollywood-based first season.

There are already some rumors floating around social media that an agreement has been struck and isn't yet announced. There have been no announcements yet to indicate that any of the show's major players will be leaving or taking a reduced role as a result of the move, although those could come at the upfront presentation in New York later today.

Pedowitz said earlier today that it didn't seem as though Supergirl would see major changes as a result of the move, which is both physical (LA to Vancouver) and network (CBS to The CW).

“I don’t think it will have a major effect on how [the Supergirl producers] actualize what they do,” Pedowitz said of the move to The CW, which he said is where the show should have been all along. Early reports were that The CW was pitched on Supergirl when it was in early development, but that the network balked at the cost of the series and at the idea of bringing in a fourth DC superhero show before the third had even premiered.

Supergirl will air Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW starting in the fall.
