It used to be that when a film released in theatres, it would have a console game release right alongside it, which often was either a complete waste of time or a buggy and glitchy mess.

Now it seems that strategy has shifted a bit, with most blockbuster films getting some sort of mobile game tie-in instead. Warner Bros. upcoming Suicide Squad is no different, with a just released first person game that features locales and characters from the film, including Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and El Diablo.

Suicide Squad Mobile Game

Suicide Squad: Special Ops looks to eschew previous cash-ins and actually provide some fun and addictive gameplay, some of which you can see in the gameplay trailer above. As Deadshot, you have his patented wrist mounted guns and an assault rifle at your disposal, while as El Diablo you'll throw aside the guns and use his flame blasts to take down foes. Rounding out the group is Harley, who has a handgun for range and her baseball bat when you need to get up close and personal.

It uses a tap and drag mechanic to move the character, while you handle your aiming by swiping on the screen. The game automatically fires when an enemy is in range. It won't convert you from using a controller anytime soon, but if you're looking for some survival mode style gameplay with a Suicide Squad skin, look no further. It's also impressive that it only took developers Sticky Studios 3 and a half weeks to build it (via Touch Arcade).

Suicide Squad: Special Ops is available for iOS and Android.
