The folks over at Screen Junkies have crafted an Honest Trailer for Watchmen, which...well, it's pretty on-point, but it also spends about half its time making fun of stuff that's just as true as the beloved comic book as it is the controversial film adaptation.

But at least it's entertaining. And, hey, they'll spend the other two minutes and change just flat-out making fun of Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder, so what the hell? That's what makes the internet go 'round.

Check it out below:

Based on the best-selling and critically-acclaimed DC Comics maxiseries from Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, Watchmen was director Zack Snyder's first foray into superhero filmmaking, years before he would be tapped to bring the DC Universe to life in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League.

While the film wasn't the massive success Warner Bros. had hoped at the box office, and reviews were good-but-not-great, it's a film that has lived on and started to be appreciated more, through a combination of passionate fans who insist it was underrated and the rise of superhero films and TV shows making the tropes of comic books more evident to the average viewer.

Even when it was in theaters, there was an argument about just how much of Watchmen's subtext the average viewer who wasn't steeped in comics could get, given that the original comic featured a lot of metatextual criticism of the superhero genre.

The film hit theaters on March 6, 2009, and earned $185 million worldwide.

In 2012, DC Comics revived the Watchmen property in a series of miniseries titled Before Watchmen and set in the world of the original series but before the apocalyptic events of Watchmen. There have been persistent rumors that Warner Bros. may try to develop those comics into a film as well, but none of those rumors have proven credible.
