The Flash season 3 got a major ratings boost last night (Nov. 29), thanks to its place as the official start to the "Invasion!" crossover with Supergirl, Arrow and the Legends of Tomorrow.

TV Line reports that Flash's Invasion! episode scored 4.09 million total viewers, with a 1.5 rating in the coveted 18 - 39 demographic. That translates to a 39% boost in total viewers from the previous season 3 high (3.17 million), and a 36% boost within the target demo (up from 1.3).

It's not that surprising to see The Flash score this high: after all, "Invasion!" or "Heroes vs Aliens" has been a much-hyped event, and the DC TV fanbase has clearly responded in kind. The trick of this crossover event has been pulling viewers who only prefer one or two of the CW's DC TV shows into watching those shows they usually avoid. Of that extra 39% boost in viewers, a fair portion of them are probably those who prefer the grounded darker world of Arrow; conversly, those who prefer the lighter fantasy of The Flash are already committing to taking in Arrow's 100th episode / Invasion tie-in. Meanwhile, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow are just hoping to get a general boost in viewers.
