Gotham actor Cameron Monaghan is back at his old game of posting photos that seem to tease big things coming for his character, Jerome. In this case, the tweet that revealed the photo was quickly deleted.
The photo shows red circles around Monaghan’s eyes, indicating either scars around his eyes or perhaps the placement of a fleshy mask. Take a look below.
Naturally, fans are quick to speculate about what all of this means. Jerome is clearly an homage to the Joker, though whether or not he actually is the Joker remains to be seen. Either way, he is quite dead currently, meaning someone would have to revive him if he’s to cause more chaos on Gotham. Considering how things have gone for Fish Mooney, that’s not out of the question.
In the New 52 comics universe, a supervillain called Dollmaker removed the Joker’s face and the Joker later pinned it back over his open facial wound. A version of the Dollmaker already exists on Gotham, so perhaps a similar version of events will play out there.
Professor Pyg, a villain some that were already going to appear on Gotham, could play a role as well. Pyg permanently attaches doll faces over his robotic henchmen called Dollatrons. Perhaps Professor Pyg is making his debut, finally, and turning Jerome into one of the Dollatrons.
There’s no knowing for sure, as Monaghan and the Gotham team seem content to keep fans in the dark for now. They’ll just have to keep watching.
Gotham is currently on midseason hiatus. Gotham returns in January 2017. The series airs on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
