Major spoilers for Gotham: The Gentle Art of Making Enemies - the winter finale ahead. Seriously, massive spoilers, so read on at your own risk!
Hopefully the Gotham fans out there are still breathing right now, unlike some of the characters that appeared tonight. One that did manage to stay alive - all be it after having his face punched off - was Jerome, the proto-Joker on the show. Many fans were afraid the character, played to critical and fan acclaim by Cameron Monaghan, would be killed off again at the end of this arc, but he made it out alive, and now heads to Arkham Asylum.
Monaghan knew when his character first died that he'd be coming back, but this time around he told Comicbook.com that he doesn't know too much about what's next.
"You know, I'm not sure. I haven't been informed yet what the plan is." He knows that his character goes off to Arkham, and is probably going to be poked and prodded a bit more, but when he returns, he knows that he'll get to really cut loose again.
"I'm not exactly sure where they're gonna go with it, but character wise what's great about Jerome is that a sane person, when they do something extreme, will try to winde it back; but every time he takes a step forward, he never takes a step back. he just pushes it further, he goes bigger, he goes more violent, more mean, and so obviously the next time he comes back he's gonna be trying to top himself in any way he can," Monaghan teased.
Bigger than a circus? Topping mass murder across the city and tearing it apart from the ground up? The citizens of Gotham City probably don't want to see Jerome's return, but fans will no doubt be clammoring for it until he does.
Gotham returns April 24, 2017 after a 12-week hiatus, during which time 24: Legacy will have its timeslot of 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
