Rahul Kohli, the iZombie standout whose Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti is a highlight of the series, has been tapped to play Jack Spheer on Supergirl.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Spheer is a charismatic tech genius who has spent decades working on a medical innovation that will eradicate major illnesses and change the face of the world – if it works. He will enter the series when he comes to National City to present it to the press -- including Kara and Snapper Carr -- but his arrival will also apparently stir up some trouble with his ex-girlfriend, Lena Luthor.
"I'm so excited to be working on Supergirl starring as Jack Spheer," Kohli told EW. "It's given me the chance to continue my relationship with The CW as well as fulfill my goal of meeting a Kryptonian."
Filming now is episode 17, which will be directed by Kevin Smith. Episode 18, in which Kohli will appear, is titled "Ace Reporter," and finally gives fans a chance to get more than just a short glimpse into what Kara does at her day job.
"That's actually been very important to us, especially in the times we now find ourselves living in; we're one of the few shows on television that actually has a journalist as a lead character," showrunner Andrew Kreisberg told a group of journalists at a recent Supergirl screening. "We really get a chance to talk about the importance of journalism, and the importance of journalism ethics, and how important [it is to have] the objective truth be out there now."
In the comics, an industrial accident transformed Spheer into the villain known as Biomax, who existed basically as a cloud of chemical smoke able to possess others' bodies.
...We will, of course, resist the temptation to ask whether Biomax might be the result of Ravi drinking too much Supermax...!
Besides his work on iZombie and Supergirl, Kohli recently signed a deal with DC Entertainment to serve as a video games correspondent on the company's DC All Access YouTube series.
