James Cameron made headlines this week when the director once again critiqued Wonder Woman. Cameron reiterated his beliefs that the superhero blockbuster was not a groundbreaking one. However, it doesn't look like Lynda Carter will let the director have the final say.
Earlier today, the Wonder Woman actress took to Facebook to share her thoughts about Cameron's controversial remarks. Carter came down hard, telling Cameron to stop dissing the heroine and then some.
"To James Cameron -STOP dissing WW: You poor soul. Perhaps you do not understand the character. I most certainly do," Carter wrote.
"Like all women--we are more than the sum of our parts. Your thuggish jabs at a brilliant director, Patty Jenkins, are ill advised. This movie was spot on. Gal Gadot was great. I know, Mr. Cameron--I have embodied this character for more than 40 years. So--STOP IT."
If you are not familiar with the Cameron debacle, the issue stems back to an interview the director did in August. Cameron called the summer blockbuster "a step backwards" and said Hollywood's back-patting of Wonder Woman was "so misguided."
"She's an objectified icon, and it's just male Hollywood doing the same old thing!" Cameron said.
The remarks incited fury amongst film-goers, and Cameron raised ire this week when he double-down on his critique. The director told The Hollywood Reporter that he still stands by his comments.
"I mean, she was Miss Israel, and she was wearing a kind of bustier costume that was very form-fitting. She's absolutely drop-dead gorgeous. To me, that's not breaking ground. They had Raquel Welch doing stuff like that in the '60s," Cameron said.
"As much as I applaud Patty directing the film and Hollywood, uh, 'letting' a woman direct a major action franchise, I didn't think there was anything groundbreaking in Wonder Woman. I thought it was a good film. Period."
