"Crisis on Earth-X" Gets New Title Sequence

The four-part Arrowverse crossover event "Crisis on Earth-X" kicked off tonight, and because the crossover is more like a movie than individual shows it even got its own title sequence.

The title sequence debuted in the Supergirl hour of "Crisis on Earth-X", and instead of featuring the title cards for each show, the heroes show up in each letter of the word "crisis" before the camera pulls back to spell out the full title. As you can see, the sequence starts with Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) flying through the "C" before passing off to The Flash (Grant Gustin) racing through the "R". Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) fires one of his arrows through the "I", and it passes through the rest of the letters in "Crisis" as the camera pulls back. While the heroes of Legends of Tomorrow don't get their own specific letter, they do appear in the sequence, with both Martin Stein (Victor Garber) and Steel (Nick Zano) visible. And it's not just the word "crisis" that gets a neat effect. At the very end of the title sequence, the "X" rushes forward, filling the screen.

This special title sequence is just one of the unique elements of The CW's DC Comics shows this week. To start, the shows are airing in a unique order, with Arrow moving from its regular Thursday night spot to air after Supergirl tonight. This unique airing order also allows for a different storytelling opportunity. While last year's crossover, "Invasion!" was broken down into individual episodes over all four shows -- with the Supergirl episode barely playing a part at all -- this year's crossover is meant to flow together. Amell said earlier this year that audiences aren't really supposed to be thinking they're watching individual episodes.

"Technically it goes Supergirl, Arrow, Flash, and Legends," Amell added. "But you're not supposed to be watching the Supergirl hour going 'Okay, this is the Supergirl hour.' It's just the first hour of the crossover."

"Crisis on Earth-X" is a four-hour event that will air on November 27th and 28th beginning at 8 p.m. and running for two hours each day; Supergirl (8 p.m. Monday), The Flash (8 p.m. Tuesday) and Legends of Tomorrow (9 p.m. Tuesday) will remain in their normal time slots but Arrow will move from Thursday to a 9 p.m. Monday placement for the week.
